Cartoon Symbolia

Dash Shaw has published a series of comics explaining the various visual symbols used by cartoonists, Cartoon Symbolia. Methinks some of the technical device names may have been made up by Dash himself. Nevertheless, it’s easy to underestimate the communicative value of a few spots and dashes in blank space, and funny how such arbitrary symbols have always (in my mind at least) carried such meaning. This page took about three years to load on my dialup connection, but others might find it less arduous. Link: http://www.dashshaw.com/symbolia.html
